The City of Melissa conducted the CityVISION survey with OnPointe Insights from October 23 to November 10, 2024, receiving 1,760 responses (margin of error: ± 2.3%). Key areas assessed included housing priorities, annexation of developments, Recreation Center amenities, and communication preferences.
City Highlights
Priorities: Citizens prioritize low density (40%) and low taxes (35%) over great city services (25%).
Housing: Townhouses/Duplexes (85%) and Mixed-use buildings (74%) were top priorities, while Multi-Family housing (13%) and Tiny homes (10%) ranked lowest.
Annexation: 86% support annexing new developments to enhance development consistency and ensure development pays for services used.
Recreation Center: Top amenities include a fitness center (60%), indoor courts (27%), and a running track (27%). 58% are willing to pay $75/$150 (single/family) for memberships; 44% would pay $150/$300. At least 72% support public-private partnerships if they speed up facility construction and reduce cost.
Community Engagement: 19% are highly interested in volunteering, and 38% want notifications about law changes. ENews- Newsletter (51%) and Facebook (46%) are preferred communication channels.
Concerns: 51% are concerned about housing prices, with 55% worried about potential property tax increases due to rising appraisals.
