Crime Control and Prevention District Board

About the Crime Control and Prevention District

A Crime Control and Prevention District is a special district allowed under Texas State law to help support crime control programs, operational expenses, and related capital purchases for Police. The sales tax revenue generated by these districts would be dedicated to Public Safety and utilized to fund enhancements in Police technology and specialized services. The City of Melissa's ever-changing community offers the district many opportunities to fund additional staff, equipment, and supplies purchases to better protect the Melissa community.

Money raised through those sales tax is restricted by law to certain uses related to its stated purposes.  The sitting City Council currently serves as the Crime Control Board of Directors.
