Mayor's Message
Greetings! I’m in my first term as Mayor of Melissa, and truth be told, it could not be a more exciting time to live in this incredible community.
Activity is buzzing absolutely everywhere. As new homes are being constructed at a record pace, our neighborhoods are being transformed into true living spaces, where people are getting to know each other and developing a sense of place, a sense of togetherness, and a sense of pride.
On the commercial side, activity is also at an all-time high with new businesses and gathering spaces springing up around town - especially along Melissa’s economic corridor (SH121) and in our downtown. As a result, our community is beginning to have access to a robust and diverse business community ranging from home service providers, medical professionals, early childhood education facilities, restaurants, fast food outlets, and coffee shops, all the way to retail auto parts services. Not to mention Buc-ees is getting a new neighbor in H-E-B, making Melissa home to not just one, but two Texas’ homegrown favorites!
Our city administration is recognized among the most efficient in the area, with an employee/resident ratio among the lowest in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Yet, our level of municipal service remains near the top of our peer cities, even those with larger workforces. Our City Manager, Jason Little, is a seasoned professional who is recognized for his out-of-the-box innovation and inclusive managerial style.
Melissa has so many amenities that reinforce the high quality of life in this community, including our fully accredited public library, new and improved parks, open spaces, trails, and other facilities that provide outstanding recreational opportunities.
Your Public Works Department works hard every day to provide a reliable, safe, and dependable source of water, clean and modern streets, and infrastructure that is proactively and responsibly maintained. Not to mention our police and fire personnel are second to none, constantly winning official recognition from their counterparts across the state. City finances are dealt with in a conservative, professional manner, with expenditures closely watched and investments expertly managed. Utilities and solid waste services are carefully monitored, ensuring that service levels remain at the highest possible levels.
We try to communicate often and accurately through tools like the Melissa Minute - if you haven’t subscribed yet, we hope you’ll consider doing so. Also, find us on Facebook and Twitter. As you click through our website, please let us know how we can provide even better ways of communicating with you.
It truly is an exciting time to live in Melissa. If I can answer any questions or provide you with information, please do not hesitate to contact me via email. We love having each of you as members of this community and look forward to seeing you around town!
