Welcome to the online gateway of Melissa, TX. We are a small but growing city located just north of the immediate DFW metroplex on the U.S. Highway 75 corridor. We are less than 10 minutes north of McKinney and 30 minutes south of Sherman.
The City of Melissa's residential growth comes from all areas of the United States. The City of Melissa provides a small town atmosphere with the conveniences of the big city just minutes away. We still have 4th of July and Christmas parades. Our Fire Department is made up of some of the best volunteers in Collin County. We have a youth sports program that allows for participation at any level. Probably one of the biggest jewels in our crown is the strength of our Melissa Independent School District. They have achieved Exemplary Status in multiple years on multiple campuses. Melissa High School has placed and holds championships in many extracurricular activities and sports, including the 2011 2A Division 1 Texas State Football Champions!
The City of Melissa boasts a proud heritage going back to 1851. This heritage is made up of the hard farming work done in the cotton and grain business throughout the years. The farming lifestyle is just minutes up the road, but most residents of Melissa are now working commuters. The City of Melissa has been doubling its population about every 10 years since 1990, and has reached a population of approximately 12,000 as of 2019.
Small Town Lifestyle
The City of Melissa offers a lifestyle and atmosphere of small town living, but with big city amenities only minutes away. It is this small town lifestyle that makes it difficult not to be involved. I urge you to take part in making good things happen with groups of friends and neighbors. We have opportunities for involvement for everyone, whether you are interested in being a part of a single event, or an ongoing committee. You can plant trees in the parkways, sell nachos in the concession stands, cook burgers at the football games, run for city government, see if being a firefighter is in your future, join the music ministry at a local church, and/or make a difference in your local neighborhood. It does not matter, just come be a part of a great way of life.
Welcome to Melissa!
