Press Release:
City of Melissa Issues Update on Vendor’s CodeRED Security Incident
MELISSA, TX - The City of Melissa has been informed by our emergency notification provider that a cybersecurity incident occurred within the vendor’s retired OnSolve CodeRED platform. This incident did not impact any City of Melissa systems. The vendor’s investigation indicates that data associated with the legacy platform was removed from their environment by an organized cybercriminal group. The vendor states there is currently no indication the data has been published online, however it may be leaked.
According to the vendor, the affected dataset may include contact information from users of the retired CodeRED system. This may involve names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and passwords created for CodeRED user profiles. Residents who reused the same password for any other accounts should change those passwords as a precaution.
The retired CodeRED system has been decommissioned. The vendor has accelerated access to the new CodeRED by Crisis24 platform, which operates in a separate and non-compromised environment. The vendor reports that the new platform has undergone a full security audit supported by external experts
Because the legacy system was permanently damaged during the cyberattack, the vendor reports that the most recent available backup of customer enrollment data is from March 31, 2025. This means some residents who enrolled or updated their information after that date may not be included until the vendor completes their restoration work.
The City continues sending emergency notifications through the new CodeRED by Crisis24 platform and through TextMyGov. We strongly urge all residents to confirm or update their emergency notification information to ensure they continue receiving alerts.
Residents can sign up or re-confirm their information in any of the following ways:
- Text MELISSATX to 24639 to receive a registration link
- Visit the CodeRED Registration Portal available at cityofmelissa.com
- Scan the CodeRED QR code on City materials, newsletters, or social media posts
- Contact em@cityofmelissa.com if assistance is needed
The City of Melissa remains committed to maintaining reliable emergency communication and will continue working closely with the vendor as they restore full platform capabilities.
