Annual Fire Dept. Santa Run set for three-day weekend
St. Nick to visit neighborhoods on Dec. 18, 19, 20
MELISSA (December 9, 2020) The unusual circumstances of this Christmas season are more than enough to make the annual Melissa Fire Department’s Santa Run, which begins on Friday, Dec. 18, all the more important.
For three consecutive evenings, Santa Claus will ride a Fire Department vehicle to specific areas of the City and interact with neighborhood kids. Santa will ride atop the department’s brush truck while the fire engine accompanies the jolly old elf as well.
“We obviously want Santa Claus to be so familiar with Melissa neighborhoods that he and his reindeer will not miss any of the City’s kids on Christmas Eve,” says Interim Fire Chief Carl Nix. “Taking him from neighborhood to neighborhood and pointing out the different residential areas ensures that on Christmas Eve, his flying sled will make it to every Melissa home.”
Starting on Friday, Dec. 18 and continuing until Sunday, Dec. 20, old St. Nick will visit either five or six neighborhoods each evening and meet local children, briefly review their wish lists, and pose for photos.
On Friday, Dec. 18, Santa will follow this schedule:
6 p.m. - the Auburndale amenity center (Auburndale at Lexington); 6:30 p.m. – the Quarry (Canyon at Fieldstone); 7 p.m. – the Hunters Ridge amenity center (Quail Creek Road); 7:30 p.m. – Country Ridge (Country Ridge Court at Country Ridge Road); 8 p.m. - the Villages of Melissa amenity center (Kendall Road); and 8:30 p.m. – the Villages of Melissa amenity center (Wysong Road).
On Saturday, Dec. 19, Santa will follow this schedule:
6 p.m. – Brookside (Brookside at Creek Haven); 6:30 p.m. Hunters Run (Hunters Run at Wolf Creek); 7 p.m. Magnolia Ridge (Magnolia Ridge at Robin Trail); 7: 30 p.m. Creek Crossing (Copperhead at Winchester); 8 p.m. – the North Creek amenities center (3100 Pecan); 8:30 p.m. – the North Creek amenities center (Throckmorton).
On Sunday, Dec. 20, Santa will follow this schedule:
6 p.m. – Berry Hollow (Dew Berry Court at Thornberry); 6:30 p.m. – Trails of Melissa (Whispering Pines at Pinecrest); 7 p.m. – Enclave and Provisions Apartments (Clubhouse); 7:30 p.m. – the Liberty amenities center (Liberty Way at Revere); 8 p.m. – the park in Liberty (Republic at Capital); 8:30 p.m. – Liberty (Greenspace Circle on Jersey).
Weather and real-life emergencies may affect these scheduled visits. Small children should be closely watched by their parents or guardians, as the excitement of seeing Santa may cause them to stray into traffic.
The annual Breakfast with Santa event has been cancelled this year.
